FAME Recording Studios began as Florence Alabama Music Enterprises, founded in 1959 by Rick Hall, Billy Sherrill, and Tom Stafford. Rick Hall later took over sole ownership, shortened the name to FAME, and helped shape what would become the legendary Muscle Shoals sound.
The studio’s first international success came with Arthur Alexander’s “You Better Move On.” From there, FAME continued producing chart-topping hits, beginning with the legendary session that created Jimmy Hughes’ “Steal Away.”
