The Grand Hotel
Experience
Today we return to Mackinac Island for an experience many travelers dream about.
After some free time on the island, we travel up the hill to the legendary Grand Hotel, one of America’s most iconic resorts. Known for having the longest front porch in the world, the Grand Hotel has welcomed guests since 1887 and continues to embody timeless elegance.
Here we enjoy the Grand Luncheon Experience, a refined dining event in the hotel’s beautiful dining room. Following lunch, take time to explore the hotel grounds, admire the gardens, or relax on the famous porch overlooking the Straits of Mackinac.
Later this afternoon we ferry back to the mainland and travel to Sault Ste. Marie, one of the oldest cities in the United States.
Before settling into our hotel, we visit the Tower of History, where a quick elevator ride lifts us 210 feet above the city for sweeping views of the Soo Locks, the St. Marys River, and even Canada across the water.
Dinner this evening will be enjoyed at a local restaurant.

Ships, Locks & Great Lakes Legends

Our morning highlight is the Soo Locks Boat Tour, where we’ll cruise through one of the world’s most fascinating engineering marvels. Watching massive freighters rise and lower inside the locks is a truly unforgettable experience.
After lunch overlooking the locks, we explore the Museum Ship Valley Camp, a historic Great Lakes freighter turned museum. The ship features over 100 exhibits, including fascinating artifacts from the famous Edmund Fitzgerald.
This evening we enjoy dinner together before returning to the hotel.

Waterfalls & Shipwreck Stories
Today we venture deeper into Michigan’s wild and beautiful Upper Peninsula.
Our first stop is the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, where dramatic stories of shipwrecks and storms on Lake Superior come to life. The museum is also home to the historic Whitefish Point Lighthouse, the oldest operating lighthouse on Lake Superior.
Next we visit the stunning Tahquamenon Falls State Park, one of Michigan’s most spectacular natural treasures. The massive Upper Falls stretch more than 200 feet across and are among the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. The river’s distinctive amber color comes from natural tannins released from surrounding forests.
Take time to walk the scenic trails, capture photographs of the falls, browse the gift shop, or enjoy lunch on your own.
Later we travel to Escanaba, where we settle in for our final evening and gather for a farewell dinner together.
